What counts as a business without a website?

A business without a website has no site of its own. Its Google listing shows no website link, or links only to a Facebook, Instagram or directory page.

Count social-only businesses as no-website leads. They still need a site they own.

Google's own bar is close. Its Business Profile guidelines ask for a website that represents the individual business location, and bar URLs that redirect users to landing pages other than the business's own, including pages created on social media sites.

How do you check a business really has no website?

Checklist

0 of 7 done

Which businesses without websites are worth pitching first?

  • If It has plenty of good reviews and no site

Then Call it first. It has customers and cares about its name.

  • If It is new: few reviews, a recent filing

Then Offer a starter site and a complete Google profile at a fixed price.

  • If It lives on Facebook or Instagram and posts often

Then Pitch a site it owns, filled with work it already posts.

  • If Its rating is low or its latest reviews are bad

Then Lead with reputation. A website will not fix that first.

  • If It has no reviews, photos or hours

Then Check it still trades before you call.

  • If Its site is broken or years old

Then Different list: pitch a redesign.

What does a business with no website actually need?

Usually less than you think: one fast page that says what they do, where and how to call, plus a complete Google Business Profile linking to it.

Google says businesses with complete and accurate info are more likely to show up in local search results.

Be careful what you promise. Google states there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. On prominence, meaning how well known a business is, Google adds:

Source Google Business Profile Help

This factor's also based on info like how many websites link to your business and how many reviews you have.

Google Business Profile Help Tips to improve your local ranking on Google

What should a first website offer include?

  • One page: services, service area, hours, tap-to-call phone
  • Their best Google reviews, quoted with the owner's OK
  • Their own domain and business email
  • A finished Google Business Profile linking to the site
  • One clear price and a launch date

How should you pitch a business that has no website?

  1. Open with what you saw

Their rating, their review count, a line from their best review.

  2. Show a draft, not a deck

Build a one-page draft with their name and services before you call.

Tip: Keep it private. Do not publish it or use their photos without permission.

  3. Make the offer small and fixed

One page, one price, a launch date. Extras can wait.

  4. Call when owners can talk

Tradespeople are on jobs much of the day. Expect voicemail, leave one short message, call back.

  5. Follow up within the rules

One short email with the draft link, your name and postal address. Stop when they say stop.

What mistakes lose the sale?

  • Opening with "I noticed you don't have a website." The owner knows.
  • Promising first place on Google. Google says nobody can pay for a better local ranking.
  • Building a full free site before the owner says yes. A one-page draft is enough.
  • Using their logo, photos or reviews in public before they agree.
  • Fake "Re:" subject lines. The FTC's CAN-SPAM guide says not to use deceptive subject lines.
