Google Maps lead generation

From first search to follow-up

Google Maps lead generation means pulling local businesses from Maps, checking their phones and emails, and contacting them with a reason to talk. A listing shows the phone, rating, reviews and website. In Leadity's Q3 2026 Google Maps data (1 July to 30 September 2026), 36.8% of listed numbers were mobiles and 35.9% of businesses showed no website.

Why is Google Maps a good source of B2B leads?

Google Maps is a directory of businesses that serve customers in person. Google gives a Business Profile to a business that has a location customers can visit, or travels to customers where they are.

Most of those businesses are small. The SBA Office of Advocacy counts 36,207,130 small businesses in the US, and 82.3% of them have no employees. At a firm with no staff, whoever picks up is the owner.

Google also requires the listed number to be under the direct control of the business, so it usually rings the business itself. Listings also show a rating, a review count and whether there is a website.

What does a Google Maps listing tell you about a lead?

A listing is a small public profile. Google's Places API names its fields: phone, website, rating, rating count, business status, primary category, hours and address.

There is no email field. An email comes from the business's own website, and not every site has one. In Leadity's checks, 62.5% of 5,926 business websites checked between 16 and 30 September 2026 publish an email address.

How do you generate leads from Google Maps, step by step?

  1. Pick one niche and a tight area

Choose one trade you can help and a few cities or ZIP codes. One niche keeps the pitch specific; a small area keeps the list workable.

Tip: One ZIP code search returns from 4.7 businesses on average (software companies) to 32.4 (marketing agencies) in Leadity's Q3 2026 Google Maps data.

  2. Pull the listings

Collect name, category, phone, website, rating, reviews and address. Copy by hand for a small test; use a scraper or list tool for hundreds.

  3. Clean the list

Remove duplicates, closed businesses and results outside your niche. A search for one trade also returns its neighbors.

  4. Check every phone and email

Find each number's line type before you dial: at a small business a mobile usually reaches the owner, a landline often a front desk. Verify emails before you send.

Tip: See how to verify mobile numbers. Leadity runs this check during the scrape, in four steps: format, allocation, carrier lookup and line type.

  5. Add the owner's name

An opener with the owner's first name sounds like research. Check the website, the state registry and the license board: how to find the owner of a business.

Tip: Expect gaps: Leadity's owner-name lookup confirmed an owner for 38.2% of 5,800 roofing contractors checked between 15 and 30 September 2026.

  6. Segment and score

Split the list by signal: no website, low rating, few reviews, a busy listing. Give each segment its own opener, and call the best fit first.

  7. Reach out by phone and email

Dial mobiles by hand in business hours. Email with your postal address and an opt-out. Keep the first touch short and about their listing.

  8. Follow up and measure

Plan several touches over a few weeks and log every outcome. Compare meetings per 100 dials by niche, and put next month's list there.

Which niches answer the phone on a mobile?

Across the 32 trades in Leadity's Q3 2026 Google Maps data, the share of businesses that list a mobile runs from 12.6% to 64.2%. Two different shares: 36.8% of listed phone numbers are mobiles. Some businesses list no phone at all, so 31.2% of all businesses have a mobile. Owner-run crews, such as pressure washers and landscapers, list a mobile most often; firms with an office or a dispatch desk, such as HVAC contractors and software companies, list a landline or VoIP line more often.

State matters too. Among the 12 states with the most roofing contractors in the data, the mobile share runs from 20.9% in California to 41.8% in Washington. Texas sits at 38.4%. See every state on the roofing contractor leads page.

What rules apply when you call or email Google Maps leads?

In the US, three sets of rules matter: the FCC's TCPA rules, the FTC's Do Not Call provisions and CAN-SPAM. The one to remember: no autodialed or prerecorded calls or texts to a mobile without prior express consent, B2B or not.

What mistakes waste a Google Maps lead list?

  • Dialing raw numbers. Only 36.8% of listed numbers in Leadity's Q3 2026 Google Maps data (1 July to 30 September 2026) are mobiles; 33.4% are landlines and 25.6% VoIP. Leadity
  • Reading line type from the area code. The area code shows where a number was assigned, not what it is: 47.5% of exchanges mix kinds of line. Leadity
  • Autodialing mobiles. FCC rules ban it without prior express consent, B2B or not.
  • Sweeping a whole state on day one. Test the pitch on a few ZIP codes, then widen.
  • Working an old list. Businesses close: 49.2% of new employer establishments were still open after five years (SBA, 1994 to 2022 average). SBA

Which tools build a Google Maps lead list?

There are six ways to get the list, from free and slow to paid and finished. Price per raw record and price per usable lead are different numbers.

At Outscraper's rates as archived in June 2026, $3 per 1,000 records plus $5 per 1,000 line-type lookups after 25 free, you pay for every record, mobile or not. In Leadity's Q3 2026 Google Maps data only 28.6% of HVAC contractors list a mobile, so most of a raw HVAC list has no cell phone. The scraper comparison ranks the tools.

Questions people ask

What is Google Maps lead generation?

Google Maps lead generation is building a prospect list from Google Maps business listings, then contacting those businesses. A listing can give the name, category, phone, website, rating and reviews. The work that pays comes after the pull: removing duplicates, checking which numbers are mobiles, adding owner names and writing an opener from the listing.

Is it legal to cold call businesses found on Google Maps?

In the US, most B2B sales calls are exempt from the Do Not Call provisions, according to the FTC. FCC rules still ban autodialed or prerecorded calls and texts to a mobile without prior express consent, and many owners list a mobile. Dial by hand and check your state's rules. This is not legal advice.

Does Google Maps show business email addresses?

Google Maps shows no business email address: Google's place data fields include a phone number and a website but no email field. An email comes from the business's own website, and 62.5% of 5,926 business websites Leadity checked between 16 and 30 September 2026 publish one. In Leadity's Q3 2026 Google Maps data, 35.9% of businesses showed no website.

How many leads does one Google Maps search return?

One ZIP code search on Google Maps returns 17.5 businesses on average in Leadity's Q3 2026 Google Maps data (1 July to 30 September 2026), from 4.7 for software companies to 32.4 for marketing agencies. Worked out from the same data, a list of 1,000 carrier-verified roofing mobiles takes about 3,145 businesses read and about 133 ZIP code searches.

How much does a Google Maps lead list cost?

Raw records from scraping platforms such as Outscraper, Apify and Bright Data cost from $1.50 per 1,000 (Apify on its biggest plan; its base price is $4), as each vendor publishes. Cleaning and phone checks come on top. Leadity prices the filtered lead: carrier-verified mobiles from $16 per 1,000, or from $56 per 1,000 with the owner's name.
